The nuance of Nancy
attempting to unpack the virality of the Nancy Meyers "aesthetic", and what I think we've gotten wrong along the way
This post isn’t going to be a primer on how to acheive that Nancy Meyers look, or a round-up of my favorite Nancy Meyers things, or even how to shop at the thrift store for those Nancy Meyers-coded objects- there are plenty of those already out there in the vast void of the internet, and they’re all very beautiful to look at. But if you’re like me and have heard the term “the Nancy Meyers aesthetic” used over and over again to describe an object as if it’s one extremely exact thing: welcome. This is a safe space. We’re here to explore and unpack why I think it’s actually an array of styles, genres, and “aesthetics” that make up this trend, together.
